Monday Musings

Hi everyone! Sorry for my extended absence last week. Between my homework for class, events for work, crazy overtime for work, and generally not feeling well, I was way to exhausted too blog or even think about blogging. I'm still not feeling 100% yet but I'm getting there. Although this work week also promises to be crazy so sorry in advance if I disappear again. Hopefully, everything will get under control soon.

I actually saw this last week and knew I needed to share with everyone once I had time. During NYFW, Vogue took top fashion photographer, Michael O’Neal, and top models, Xiao Wen Ju, Arlenis Sosa, and Hilary Rhoda, to make an amazing shoot with Instagram. It can be found under #VogueInstaFashion.

How cool are these?! You can see all the photos here.

How were everyone's weekend's? I have a lot of catching up to do.

Fall Uniform

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I can say that I really did not do much at all this weekend besides enjoying the gorgeous weather. I might have also stayed up most of Saturday night to make sure I was able to get the Phillip Lim for Target pieces I wanted. Yes, I am crazy, but I also got everything I wanted. I can't wait until it arrives, hopefully it will be worth me staying up all night. Did anyone else end up getting anything?

This weekend also brought the start of real fall-like weather, and I already miss the summer weather. I'm not ready for cold weather. I always dread winter. On the weekends during fall, I usually stick to an outfit very similar to the one below. A v-neck shirt, a matching scarf, and a pair of jeans and I am good to go. I just love simple outfits that can look polished.

Do you have a go-to fall outfit?

Monday Musings

Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I for one spent as much time as I could being outside enjoying this gorgeous weather we have been having.

It's that time of the year where all of fashion's elite flock to Lincoln Center ( I will forever mourn the loss of tents in Bryant Park). With the fashionable ones being in such close quarters to where I work, I almost feel the need to make sure I look super presentable and polished. But then I remember no one will be taking my picture so I have nothing to worry about.

So far, I have to say my favorite show has been Kate Spade's presentation. I would have loved to see the whole collection in person. I love that the whole collection is inspired by travel, since traveling is a dream of mine.

Also I am beyond obsessed with this photo of Harper and Anna Wintour smiling.

Monday Musings

I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. I spent my weekend on my roof trying to soak in some of the last rays of summer.  Did anyone else watch the VMAs? I nearly died at the NSYNC reunion. My 12 year old self was in heaven with happiness. Although I do wish they could have performed a bit longer. JT's performance was amazing as usual. I am in such awe of his dance skills.

I have been trying to catch up on my reading list since I usually do most of my reading during the summer. Of course a bunch of new books just came out that I have been hearing great things about. I am especially excited to read Night Film since people at work would not stop raving about it. Why isn't summer longer? Reading outside is the best.
Night Film // The Bone Season (calling her the new JK Rowling) // I Wear The Black Hat // The Cuckoo's Calling (so good!!! I highly recommend)

What are you reading right now?

Monday Musings

Hello everyone! I hope that everyone had a great weekend. I for one had a very relaxing weekend after the craziness of last week. I even went to my first surprise party where the birthday girl actually had no clue it was happening. On Saturday, I participated in NYC's Summer Streets where they shut down Park Ave to all traffic until 1pm. I was even able to walk through the Park Ave Tunnel that was turned into an art exhibition. It was pretty cool walking in areas that are normally shut off to pedestrians. Here are just some of my photos from the day. Make sure to follow my instagram to see all my adventures.

Also my roommate and I got addicted to watching Scandal. Does anyone else watch it? What shows do you watch? I need some new ones. I love shows like Scandal, Revenge, and Homeland.

Monday Musings

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I escaped the gross humidity in NYC for the beach. I was without my computer this weekend so I'm still trying to catch up on everyone's blogs. It was quite relaxing to be pretty much cut off the from the world for a short time.

Here is a quote to keep in mind while we try to get through this Monday. It's so hard to have work on a Monday after having last Monday off.

How was your weekend?

Monday Musings

Well I didn't win the lottery this weekend unfortunately, but let's imagine that I did. I would quit my job and travel the world. It is my dream to one day travel to all 7 continents.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

Monday Musings

It's been a very eventful weekend for me. Not only did I finally cut my hair short, but I signed a lease on a new apartment!! It even has an amazing rooftop deck! I cannot wait to move in next month. I must say it's much more fun to look at apartments online than it is in person (none of them look as nice in person as they do online). Here are just a few of places that I would love to live in one day.

Monday Musings

This week is already shaping up to be crazy. I will be repeating this quote to myself all week as my work promises to be insane until Friday. It's as Walt Disney once stated, "It's fun to do the impossible,"since it means it only hasn't been done before.

Monday Musings: Lean In

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have most likely heard of the controversy surrounding Sheryl Sandberg's new book Lean In. I actually finished reading Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In over a week ago, but I wanted my review to do it justice in conveying how important it is for everyone to read this book. For those of you unfamiliar with Sheryl, she is Facebook's Chief Operating Officer and one of Time's Most Influential People in the World. Her TEDTalks episode on why there are too few women leaders in the work place has now been viewed over two million times. Sheryl is a major advocate for the advancement of women in the workplace and she is unafraid to talk about the topics that most wish to ignore (hence the controversy surrounding her book).

Lean In expands upon what Sheryl was talking about in her TEDTalks episode and I have to say the book really opened my eyes to ways that not only am I holding myself back in the workforce but how society is contributes to it as well. While I do not agree with every point she makes, Lean In really struck a cord with me. I am now being more conscious about leaning in at work and saying my opinion on subject matters instead of waiting to be asked what I thought. I cannot sit around and wait to be noticed at work, I really need to be my own advocate. Sheryl wants women to be successful and proud of what they are doing--whether it's running a company or raising a child or even better- both. Sheryl does not look down upon women who choose to stay at home and raise their children because she recognizes that it is hard work to raise a family. But at the same time she does not want women to feel guilty if they want to have a family and continue to work. I highly recommend this book for everyone, whether you are just joining the workforce or a seasoned pro.

Learn more about Sheryl and her cause at leanin.org.

Next up on the reading list: Z : A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald, an account of Zelda Fitzgerald's life through her eyes (I'm a sucker for anything 1920's related).
